A 39ac non-residential holding at Tierhogar, Killenard, Co Laois, sold at auction last week for €605,000, or €15,500/ac – a strong price in the current market.

Situated adjacent to the famous Heritage Golf Resort at Killenard, the property is 4km from the M7 motorway, 7km from Portlaoise and 3km from Portarlington. The lands, which adjoin Carrig Lea housing development, are zoned for enterprise and employment.

The ground is described by auctioneer Paddy Jordan as being top quality and currently under a crop of winter corn. The holding was offered in the entire and in lots of 13ac and 26ac.

Before around 20 people, the proceedings kicked off with the sale of the lots but, while there were several bidders, it quickly became apparent the demand for the entire was greater.

The 39ac opened at €430,000 and then increased in bids of €10,000 and €5,000 before being knocked down at €605,000 to a man from the general area.

Paddy Jordan was obviously very happy with the outcome.

"This was an excellent parcel of land in a good location with potential longer term value and the price achieved reflected this," he said.
