A radical stallion inspection system based on the Dutch regime is now being implemented by Horse Sport Ireland.

The main features of the new system are a public competition to select potential inspectors for Irish Sport Horses, a training programme for inspectors in conjunction with the KWPN (Dutch warm-blood studbook) and training for the existing Irish Draught Inspection panel on linear scoring.

The new regime includes linear scoring for 19 conformation traits, eight movement traits and seven jumping traits, the introduction of an enhanced loose jumping element and enhanced public presentation of the inspection process.

Each stallion will be the subject of a public comment by the chairperson of the inspection panel.

The first inspections under the new system took place yesterday at Cavan Equestrian Centre and will continue until tomorrow.
