Seeds are sown for a big crowd at Grass 2010

Bruce Lett

A huge turnout is expected for the FTMTA's Grass 2010, which takes place this Thursday at Gurteen Agricultural College in Ballingarry, Roscrea, Co Tipperary.

The FTMTA has organised 60 grass harvesting plots and visitors to the event will have the opportunity to see much of the new kit that has been launched since last November's Agritechnica show in Hannover, Germany.

Like an agricultural version of the Oxegen music festival, nearly everybody will be there, the big names and the small names, all displaying their wares.

From Big M to self propelled harvesters, wagons, balers, mowers and more, it will be the first time for many to see what is new in mechanical grass processing.

The FTMTA is charging €20 a car to park at the event so load up well to keep the cost down. Be warned, though, that no cars will be allowed to park on the public roads and the N52 road will be a tow-away zone for the period of the event. There is ample parking as 35ac have been allocated to cater for visitors.

Gurteen Agricultural College is just off the N52 between Birr, Co Offaly and Borrisokane, Co Tipperary. Satellite navigation users should key in reference 08° 00' 42'' W, 53° 02' 22'' N as there are a few Gurteens in the country.
