TAMS II funding for safety measures
Many farmers are aware that TAMS II funding is available for schemes such as dairy equipment and slurry storage, yet there is also funding for a wide array of safety equipment.
Under the Animal Welfare, Safety and Nutrient Storage Scheme applications can be made to install items such as cattle crushes, sheep handling facilities, both fixed and mobile, changing swinging doors to sliding doors, replacing slats and head scoops, leg hoists and calving boxes.
Teagasc's John Crosse also urged people to bear in mind that they may need planning permission for a fixed cattle crush or a letter of exemption for their local county council.
He also pointed out farmers will not get paid until they can show they have completed the half-day Farm Safety Code of Practice from Teagasc or other trained operators in the last five years or show they have completed the FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Agriculture (Green Cert.)
