Friday night (January 13) is the closing date for Tranche 5 of TAMS II applications.

Farmers interested in applying for the latest round of the grant aid package must have their application submitted by midnight on Friday night, the Department of Agriculture confirmed.

TAMS monies are available under a range of schemes, three of the most popular are the Dairy Equipment Scheme, the Animal Welfare and Nutrient Storage Scheme, and the Low Emission Slurry Spreading Scheme (LESS).

Applicants for the various schemes can avail of a 40-60pc grant on a maximum spend of €80,000, with threshold at €40,000 for the Low Emission Slurry Spreading Scheme.

The farm building grant schemes have seen farm construction soar this year with planning permissions up by a staggering 135pc over the first three quarters of 2016.

Figures from the CSO show that so far this year 1,433 planning permissions have been granted compared to just 609 over the same period in 2015.

Figures for the third quarter shows that 494 permissions were granted in the three months to September.

The most planning permissions were given to farmers in the South and East at 280 with a further 214 permissions granted to farmers in the Borders Midlands and West.
