Ryan is new Sixmile' boss

Sean Ryan has been appointed manager of Sixmilebridge Co-operative Mart. The Co Clare facility was bought by local farmers and business people from GVM Marts earlier this year and is due to be reopened shortly.

Mr Ryan has previous experience as mart manager in Athenry and farms at New Inn in Co Galway. The chairman of the mart board, Sixmilebridge suckler farmer Pat O'Reilly, described the appointment as an "important milestone".

The mart is on target to re-open on August 27, subject to Department approval.

The plan is to have the first weanling sale on September 3.

The mart premises was purchased by funds raised from 600 shareholders.

Board secretary Eddie Punch said that it was still possible to purchase shares and encouraged anyone interested to contact committee members.

"The plan is to minimise borrowings," Mr Punch said.
