Russian cheese market grows

The Russian cheese market continues to grow, with volumes showing a rise of 20pc last year despite higher custom duties being imposed on imports.

According to Intesco Research Group, the cheese market stood at 763,000t in 2010 and showed growth of 7pc, but domestic production increased by just 2pc.

Belarus, Germany, Ukraine and Finland are the main suppliers to Russia, whose buyers prefer hard-pressed cheese, with 41pc of people buying it once or twice a week.
