A hectic and complex auction held last week saw a 68ac Wicklow farm sell under the hammer in lots making a total of €660,000 or over €9,700/ac.
The farm, with a two-storey farmhouse and a set of stone sheds with residential and farming potential, is located at The Height, Ballinglen, about 4km from Tinahely in Wicklow.
The house is described by auctioneer David Quinn as structurally sound, but in need of modernisation. The buildings in the yard include stone sheds with great character, including a lofted shed and a three-column 'A' roofed shed.
The property was offered in lots or as an entire, with the lots made up of a 6ac parcel of ground, the house and sheds on 4ac and the remaining c58ac.
The auction turned out to be a race between bidders on the entire and bidders on the lots.
The hammer fell on the 6ac at €65,000 and it was bought by a local dairy farmer.
The house and outbuildings on 4ac sold for €145,000 to a local woman, while a local drystock farmer bought the c58ac for €450,000.
