Pottinger drills up new ideas
Pöttinger has introduced its new generation of three and four-metre Terrasem R3, R4 and C4 seed drills.
The R3 and R4s are rigid units, while the C4 is a 4m unit that folds to 3m on the road.
Up front, cultivating is done by an integrated disc harrow, which, Pöttinger says, ensures extensive mixing of the soil. Next is a row of pneumatic press wheels followed by dual disc seed coulters with trailed depth rollers to provide a neat seed drill to finish off the sowing process. The coulter mechanism is hinged on a parallel linkage, which allows it to track the ground. Pressure on the coulters can be varied between 40 and 120kg to allow for different ground conditions and aid exact seed placement.
The seed metering unit is electrically driven and controlled via an ISOBUS signal from the tractor. The company says the metering wheel can easily be changed from the normal seed unit to the small seed unit and vice versa, and the hopper has a capacity of 3,000 litres on both the 3m and 4m models.
