AA Roadwatch has warned motorists to expect delays as thousands head to the Ploughing Championships in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

Delays have been reported heading north into Birr on the N62 Roscrea/ Birr Rd and also on the Borrisokane/ Banagher Rd (R438).

There are also delays from the M6 at J5 Tullamore onto the N52 Tullamore Rd towards Durrow.

According to Met Eireann forecaster Jean Byrne today is a good day for the Ploughing Championships as it will be dry with a small chance of rain.

"It's mixed weather but today should be dry with a small chance of patches of rain," Jean told Independent.ie.

"There will be some cloud but there will be bright spells too with temperatures of up to 16 degrees."

Jean said to make the best of the ploughing weather today as tomorrow will be wet.

"Today is definitely better than tomorrow. It will be wet tomorrow afternoon but it should clear in the evening and it will be dry but cooler," said Jean.

According to Met Eireann, Thursday will be brighter with some sunny spells but also a risk of heavy showers.
