One company which is preparing for its 40th year in business and its 40th trip to the National Ploughing Championships is Co Mayo firm, Major Equipment Intl Ltd.
John Murphy, managing director at Major Equipment Intl Ltd said: "We've always found the National Ploughing Championships to be a great show for us. We get a chance to meet with our customers and dealers and introduce new products that we have coming up.
"This year is no different, and we are launching our winged 3.5m Cyclone Mower (pictured). We are delighted that it has been shortlisted for the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Arena."
From humble beginnings in 1976, Major has developed into an international business which now employs 78 people and exports 65pc of its annual production to countries around the world and as far away as Australia and Chile.
To celebrate its 40th birthday, Major has launched its Win A Trip to Italy photo competition. Major is inviting customers to submit pictures of their Major machines in action over the years. To learn more about the competition and submit your entry, readers can visit the Major website major-equipment.com.
The company has seen many changes over the years, but unfortunately one area of our industry that has remained constant is the number of farming injuries and fatalities.
With this in mind, Major Equipment has teamed up with Alma Jordan from AgriKids (agrikids.ie) for the duration of the National Ploughing Championships. Alma is an award-winning author of a series of story books centred around farm safety to engage, educate and empower children to be farm safety ambassadors.
"We think Alma's message and her books are a great idea," explained Mr Murphy.
