Dedicated as Gaeilge quarter a new initiative

For the first time ever, the Ploughing Championships 2013 has a dedicated Irish Language quarter.

'Pobal Na Gaeilge' is an initiative bringing together several Irish language groups to provide visitors with an array of events including musical sessions, competitions, CD launches and information on products, services, and supports available through Irish.

Yet another new feature at Ratheniska will be the dedicated Children's Playground at Block 3, Row V, Stand 364. The playground, constructed by Laois Ploughing in conjunction with Go Play/Kompan, includes swings, slides and plenty of obstacles to keep the little ones entertained.

For aspiring fashionistas, the Fashion Marquee hosts the extremely popular daily fashion shows at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm, featuring models from the Holman Lee Model Agency showing off all the latest trends.

Judges will be on the look out for the 'Most Appropriately Dressed' lady and gent at the Ploughing. The winners will take home prizes from Wineport Lodge and Louis Copeland & Sons. Fashion show attendees can also enter a draw for a Thomas Cook Holidays voucher to the value of €500.

For music lovers, the Bandstand (Block 2, Row B1, Stand 538) will showcase the best in local and national talent.

Tractor fans at Ratheniska should make it their business to visit the 'Live Tractor Build' at Block 1, Row W, Stand 375.

Get a good spot to see a vintage tractor being built from scratch to running and ready for work. The team will replicate this feat every day of the event.

Among the more modern machines on display at the Ploughing will be tractors and implements from New Holland, Massey Ferguson, Valtra, Landini, McCormick, Case IH, Deutz-Fahr, Shire and Claas.
