Offaly opportunity as farming family retires

The retirement of a Co Offaly farming family has created an opportunity to acquire land that has been in the same family for more than 150 years.

The 80ac residential holding at Irishtown, Dunkerrin, Co Offaly is being offered by the Reid family at public auction on March 25, unless previously sold.

The farm was run as a dairy farm up until the 1990s. It is set out as one large parcel except for one 7.5ac field.

The quality of the land is mixed. There are about 40 acres of very good quality grazing land and about another 25 acres that are described as "moor-ish".

However, water is available from a stream and the lands also offer road frontage.

The sale includes a two-storey house, which is habitable but needs modernising. Outbuildings are also included, though these are said to be in poor condition.

Victor Mitchell Auctioneers in Roscrea are handling the sale and are quoting a guide price of €650,000 for the entire. The property will also be offered in lots, subject to demand.

The farm is located seven miles outside Roscrea, 15 miles from Birr and 24 miles from Nenagh. The N7 Dublin to Limerick route is just two miles away.
