This year's ploughing match has a new principal sponsor as Northern Bank was asked by the Northern Ireland Ploughing Association (NIPA) to assume overall sponsorship of the event.

On Friday the Northern Ireland Championship (World Style) Conventional class will be ploughed on stubble, while on Saturday it will be ploughed on grassland. The combined results from these classes will determine the Northern Ireland team to compete at the next World Ploughing Championships.

Speaking prior to this year's match, Northern Bank's head of agriculture, John Henning, said: "Northern Bank is proud to sponsor the 67th International Ploughing Championships organised by the NIPA.

"Our links with the NIPA go back many years and we were delighted to be approached by them to consider sponsoring the International Championships and are happy to be doing so."

The organisers, sponsors and trade exhibitors hope that the weather will be kind this year and provide excellent conditions for competing ploughmen and visitors.
