The field is described as consisting of excellent quality land in two divisions with excellent road frontage and situated just 15 minutes' drive from Limerick City.

Tom Crosse of selling agents GVM Limerick said the field is ideal for agricultural use and also has obvious site potential, subject to the necessary planning permission. There are currently no outbuildings or access to water.

Up to 20 people attended the auction with two bidders fighting it out for the prized field.

Bidding opened at €70,000 and the place was put on the market at €100,000 and several bids later the auctioneer's gavel fell at €114,000.

Mr Crosse was thrilled with the price saying it bucked the recent trend of recent sluggish sales in the general Limerick area.
