To meet the needs of farmers looking for lower capacity twin-tub feeders, the company has just launched the VF 1500. This has a capacity of 15m3 and is geared towards farmers with around 100hd of stock and upwards. It is lower for loading and slightly narrower than the larger Abbey models.

The new model has numerous discharge options, a programmable weighing system, heavy duty gearbox and low horse power requirement, according to the firm.

Abbey also adds that the VF 1500 has been specially designed to give faster and more efficient mixing of feed ingredients.

Capacities

There are now more than 20 models in the Abbey vertical diet feeder range consisting of single, twin and tri-auger machines with capacities ranging from 7-33m3.

The company's paddle feeders come with capacities of 10 and 14.5m3.

According to David Carty, sales of Abbey diet feeders are continuing to grow in Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

The company recently delivered its first machines to farmers in France. It has also launched a new feeder purchase scheme in conjunction with Bank of Ireland Finance.

With interest rates starting at 2.35pc, a farmer borrowing €15,000 over three years to purchase a feeder through one of Abbey's dealers would have a repayment in annual instalments of €362 per €1,000, or €5,425 a year.

Where the loan is repaid in half-yearly instalments, the repayment is slightly higher -- at €369 per €1,000 borrowed over three years.

Abbey adds that the rates on four and five-year loans are also very competitive.
