Despite significant interest from a number of farmers, it was a non-farming local resident who secured an 8.52ac block of land at Kilcloon, Co Meath, last week.
The property, located close to Dunboyne, had a pre-auction guide price of €85,000 and attracted five bidders in all. Laid out in a single block of pasture, the land had 200m of road frontage.
Bidding on the land opened at €50,000 and proceeded upwards in bids of €10,000 to €90,000, where it slowed down. Bids of €5,000, then €4,000 and finally €1,000 were take by auctioneer Aidan Heffernan from Sherry Fitzgerald Royal.
It was eventually knocked down to a resident that lives adjacent to the land for €110,000.
On the same day, Mr Heffernan handled the sale of an 18.27ac farm at Warrenstown, Co Meath. Laid out in two blocks of grassland with road frontage, the property had a pre-auction guide price in excess of €160,000.
Bidding opened at €130,000, with three farmers competing for the farm. It was withdrawn unsold at €157,000 but sold immediately after the auction for higher.
