A Co Meath mushroom farm sold for more than double its reserve price at the Allsop Space auction of distressed properties last week in Dublin.
While many of the auction properties sold for bargain basement prices, the 5.2ac mushroom farm at Rathfeigh, Tara, Co Meath, outperformed them by selling for €175,000, a full €100,000 more than its reserve of €75,000.
Compounds pricing plea
Pig producers are demanding that feed compounders reduce prices immediately to reflect the lower market price of soya and wheat.
IFA pigs chairman Tim Cullinan has said some compounders were quick to increase prices when they were escalating, and called for price drops of €20-€30/t from compounders to reflect market realities.
Turf call to Deenihan
Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan has come under fire for his failure to implement the turf cutting package for farmers and landowners.
IFA Connacht vice president Padraic Divilly called on Mr Deenihan to supply solid fuel for the coming winter for those who have been stopped from cutting and for compensation to be doubled to €2,000 for the lifetime of the bog.
