Monaghan farm going cheap with guide of just ¤10,000/ac

In what is a sign of the times, the guide price for a 34ac Monaghan farm with 20ac zoned for residential development has a guide price of just €10,000/ac.

The farm at Drumcrew, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, is adjacent to the town of Castleblayney and has access from two roads, as well as lake views.

There are no farm buildings of any kind on the land and no single payment entitlements included in the sale.

"It has massive potential and, when things turn around, this would be one of the first farms to be developed," said auctioneer Padraig Smith.

However, he expects the farm to be sold for agricultural value at around €10,000/ac.

Meanwhile, a guide of €220,000 has been set by the same auctioneer for a 21ac residential farm at Tullytrain, Crosskeys, Co Cavan (right).

Due to go under the hammer on Thursday, August 18, the farm is laid out in several divisions and described as being of good quality.

The farmyard includes a cubicle house, machinery shed, hayshed, cattle pen and chute.


It is located one kilometre from the village of Crosskeys, 11km from Cavan town and 8km from Ballyjamesduff, close to the main N3.

The property will be offered for sale in three lots. The sale will also include the option of buying a small single farm payment with the farm.
