McConnel a cut above rest

UK firm McConnel is well known here in Ireland for its range of hedge cutters. The company also manufactures other equipment including toppers. McConnel and many other names familiar to the hedgecutting industry, including Bomford, Twose, Spearhead and Rosseau, are all owned by the Alamo Group based in Seguin, Texas.
McConnel's 9ft topper, simply called the Topper 9, has been around for years but the firm also manufactures a wide range of hydraulic folding toppers/flex wing mowers as well. Production of the hydraulic folding machines recently moved from the USA to the UK and, this year, the trailed machines become metric in size and model numbering.
There are four models in the SR hydraulic folding mower range, with working widths from 4.2-8.2m. The smallest model, the SR420, is a three-point linkage-mounted machine while all the rest are trailed.
Standard features include free swinging 'up-draft' blades to lift the crop to ensure no material is left uncut. It also has anti-scalping discs on the rotor centres, ground following wheels (walking axles on the wider models) and all are shaft driven with slip clutch protection. List prices (excluding VAT) are:
•SR420: 4.2m (12ft 6in) €14,080
•SR460: 4.6m (15ft) €20,215
•SR620: 6.2m (20ft) €25,870
•SR820: 8.2m (26ft 6in) €36,855
