There was further evidence that this year could be a robust one for farm sales when a 43ac residential farm at Tirlahood, Stradone, Co Cavan, sold at auction recently for an average price of €8,800/ac.

The farm, located along the Cavan to Baileboro road about 3km off the N3, comprised 43ac of average land along with an old residence in need of repair and the remains of a single-storey dwelling. The land is in seven manageable divisions with an abundance of road frontage.

Auctioneer Padraig Smith had a full house at the Farnham Arms Hotel, Cavan, when he sold the property in two lots.

A 6ac section was bought by a local farmer for €63,000.

A further 37ac block sold to another local farmer for €316,000.
