Gallery: Vintage Porsche and Ferguson tractors for sale
A number of vintage tractors are up for sale this week at Mealy's winter auction
The sale, which takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week in Castlecomer, Kilkenny, has a number of items that will interest vintage lovers and farmers.
One of the main highlights is an extremely rare Ferguson Brown tractor, series number 883.
This tractor was built in Huddersfield and was part of a consignment sent to South Africa and Rhodesian air fields in the late 1930s and early 1940s. This particular example was believed to have been fitted with a generator run by a side mounted pulley and was used by the South African R.A.F., in the starting of Shackleton Air Planes and also as a tug.
This tractor is unique not only by its history, but because it is the only surviving model with a side mounted steering wheel and seat, as apposed to the central seated model. This tractor is in good working order and restored and has a guide price of €20,000-25,000.
Also for sale are two Porsche tractors. The first, a 329 is a three-cylinder air cooled model, only in production from 1960-1963. It spent its working life on a farm in the south of France before being acquired by its current owner around 10 years ago and restored to its former glory.
According to Mealy's, the three-cylinder was the highest quality model in the range and this tractor has a guide price of €17,500-22,000.
Meanwhile, a 217 twin-cylinder Porsche is for sale with a guide price of €15,000-20,000.
