There was strong local interest when a 22.3ac piece of land with a derelict cottage at Garrafrauns, Dunmore, Co Galway, went to auction.

The holding was offered in three lots by auctioneer Gerry Coffey.

Lot one was made up of 4.8ac, the second lot was a two-acre site with a derelict cottage and lot three comprised 15.5ac described as better than forestry land but in need of attention.

Lot one, 4.8ac, opened at €20,000 and sold for €22,000.

Lot two, the derelict cottage, sold for €10,000, while the 15.5ac making up lot three was withdrawn from auction at €30,000.

According to Mr Coffey, interest in this piece of property has continued after the auction and he hopes to sell at or near the guide price of €60,000.

Recently withdrawn from auction was a 17.5 ac farm located at Fossabeg, Scarriff, Co Clare. Mr Coffey said the roadside holding would be suitable as an addition to a current farm or as a piece of hobby farming ground.

While a good crowd showed up for the auction, the bidding was slow.
