Two local farmers were the winners when a 70ac farm was sold near the Co Offaly village of Kinnity recently.

The farm was initially offered for sale in the entire by local auctioneer John Ryan but the strongest interest was the property in lots and it ended up being sold in this manner.

A 45ac section, with a single farm payment of roughly €7,950, was withdrawn at €305,000 but was bought later by local farmer Nicholas Egan.

Mr Ryan would not be drawn on the exact sale price but he said it made more than €320,000. This portion of the farm is all in one field and leads down to the source of the Camcor River that flows on into Birr.

The remaining 25ac, which is located at the other side of the Camcor, was withdrawn at €90,000 but sold later for a higher figure.

It was bought by local farmer Michael Talbot.
