Munster breeders dominated at a superb IHFA bull show and sale, with the prices paid for bulls being described as the best in several years.
But the real success of the event, which attracted a turnout of 42 bulls at Nenagh Livestock Mart, was achieved by the well-known Cork-based Lisduff herd. The O'Sullivan family's six entries cleaned up in the sales ring under the hammer of Cork-based auctioneer Denis Barrett.
Four of the Lisduff bulls out of the famed sire O-Bee Manfred Justice were winners both in the judging ring and sales ring.
After missing out on first place in Class 1, which went to the Reserve Champion of the Show, Crossnacole Goldman ET from the herd of Victor Jackson, Kiltegan, the Lisduff-bred bulls won the five other places in the class, adding the EBI award, with the sixth bull the EBI winner in Class 3.
Despite being placed sixth in its class, Lisduff Mandolin ET, out of Lisduff Ransom ET, out of Lisduff Leslie by Ramos, topped the sale at €6,400.
In a profitable day for the Lisduff herd, the O'Sullivans watched their four OJI bulls also reel in the top prices on the day, making €5,700, €5,000, €4,700 and €4,100 each.
Overall Champion Bull of the Show, Laurelmore Jogger from the herd of John and Ricky Barrett, Ballinhassig, Co Cork, sold for €2,900.
