Inch farm goes for double guide

A 55ac farm located at Ballyellen, Inch, Gorey sold last week for more than €14,000/ac.

Described as a great result by auctioneer Michael Kinsella, the grassland farm made 50pc more than its guide price when the hammer eventually dropped at €780,000.

After opening at €450,000, five bidders, including three farmers, joined the fray as the price was ratcheted up in bids of €10,000 and €5,000 towards the end of the bidding. The holding was bought by a neighbouring farmer.

The land was described as good quality, well fenced, with its own well, sheds and two-storey farmhouse requiring modernisation. It had some road frontage.
