IFA seeks crime forum

THE IFA has called for a rural forum to tackle the increasing incidence of burglaries. With more than 100,000 thefts so far this year and burglaries up by 9pc in recent months, the IFA's Eddie Downey has sought the urgent enactment of laws to allow the use of justifiable force against intruders, financial support for house alarms for the elderly, the re-establishment of the national crime council and a scrap-metal compliance scheme to monitor the purchase and re-sale of scrap metal.
Meanwhile a home security exhibition will take place from 11-7pm in the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan, Co Meath, this Saturday.
Vehicle tracking systems, property markers, cameras and alarms, and items for the elderly will be on display.
