IFA criticises accountants

The IFA has slammed accountants for failing to make adequate capital gains tax declarations on behalf of landowners who received CPO payments for road projects.

From a sample of 50 cases, more than 85pc of farmers were required to make additional payments.

IFA roads chairman Jer Bergin said it was inexcusable that professional accountants left farmers open to large capital gains tax payments.

Bursary for 20 students

The Department of Agriculture is providing a bursary to 20 students undertaking a one-year Diploma in Speciality Food Production at University College Cork. The 20 students are from Cork, Laois, Limerick, Tipperary, Kerry and Waterford.
