ICMSA seeks Kerry talks to clarify top milk price comment

Kerry Group chief executive Stan McCarthy is to meet ICMSA president Jackie Cahill early next week to clarify commitments he made to dairy farmers at the recent shareholder meeting.
Mr McCarthy committed to taking all milk that Kerry suppliers would produce in the future and pay a leading milk price, claimed Mr Cahill.
"As an organisation, we want to make sure that any guarantees made to farmers are clear and unambiguous," said Mr Cahill.
"Farmers must be protected into the future and we need to get any promises made enshrined, particularly as Kerry Group grows and becomes more global."
It is understood that the ICMSA will urge Mr McCarthy to commit to paying a leading price for milk, based on the KPMG milk price report.
"We need to set out the parameters for measuring and comparing what milk price Kerry suppliers will receive," Mr Cahill insisted.
