ICE card for emergencies

Muintir na Tire has joined forces with ICE365 to create a personal information system to be used in emergencies.

The ICE365 card will provide personal identification and medical information to first responders in an accident situation, as well as providing contact numbers for family and relatives to be contacted when you are in an accident or require assistance.

•Gorey Agricultural Show marks its 152nd anniversary this year and to celebrate, the committee are planning a show to beat all others on June 18.

Champion pitchers from all over Ireland are expected to test the strength of the local Model County pitchers, while sheep shearer George Graham will demonstrate traditional and modern methods of sheep shearing and wool handling.

Other entertainment on the day will include sheep dog trials, historical displays, a working forge, as well as numerous livestock and equestrian classes.

The venue at Clonattin is just a short stroll from the town of Gorey, with easy access from the M11 motorway.

•Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney has announced that 84 new entrants to dairying have been allocated milk quota under the 2011 New Entrants Scheme.

Of this total, 53 'brand new' entrants, who had not previously held quota, will each receive allocations of 200,000 litres. The remaining 31 successful applicants, who had previously purchased quota as either new entrants or successors under the Milk Quota Trading Scheme, will receive allocations totalling a further 4.3 million litres.

All recipients have until 1 April 2013 to commence milk production.
