Application forms for the new Agri-Environment Options Scheme (AEOS) will not need to be detail perfect, Department of Agriculture officials told the farmers' meeting in Co Cavan.

The Department's Michael O'Donovan insisted farmers would not be "hung out" where specific details weren't 100pc accurate.

Attendees were urged to look at the species rich grassland and traditional hay meadows measures.

Their level of payment is set at €314/year for both.

However, farmers will lose Disadvantaged Area cash on lands fenced for riparian margins around water courses or set to linnet crops.

Tonight's AEOS meetings take place in the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork and Northern Hotel in Bundoran, Co Donegal, both at 8pm.

The South Court Hotel in Limerick and Breaffy House Hotel in Castlebar are tomorrow's venues, while Hotel Kilkenny, Kilkenny, and the Clayton Hotel, Galway, host meetings on Thursday.
