Grain farmers protest over Glanbia prices

Food business Glanbia has been accused of short-changing farmers by not paying for grain at fair prices as well as overcharging for grain-drying services.

The allegations were made at a protest outside Glanbia offices in Kilkenny.

IFA president Eddie Downey said a fund was set up to support growers through difficult periods but was now being used to subvert prices, which are short of the market value paid by other firms.

Glanbia rejected the complaints and said the prices represented an optimistic view of the prevailing markets.
