A 62.5ac farm overlooking the Shannon Estuary at Ballycullane, Glin, Co Limerick failed to sell at auction at Kirby's Lanterns Hotel, Tarbert, Co Kerry recently.
Auctioneer Tom Stuart of Sherry FitzGerald Stuart, Listowel offered the farm for sale in two lots. Lot one, consists of approximately 46.58ac at Ballycullane Lower and lot two comprises 15.92ac in one block located at Ballycullane Upper. Both lots have farmyard and cattle handling.
According to Tom Dillon of joint agents Sherry FitzGerald Dillon Prendiville, Listowel, a fine crowd turned up for the auction but when an offer of €460,000 was sought to kick things off for the 46.58ac there were no bids. The offer sought was then reduced until proceedings opened at €400,000. Three bidders showed interest but after two bids of €10,000 and one of €5,000 the auction stalled at €425,000 and the property was withdrawn.
There were no bids on the second lot of 15.92ac. While somewhat disappointed, the auctioneers are confident that the property will be sold by private treaty in the near future.
"An offer on the smaller portion came in immediately after the auction," explained Tom Dillon, "and given the level of interest we are hopeful that the larger lot will sell soon."
