Sheep breeders travelled from many parts of the country to compete for pedigree stock at the 93rd Annual Show and Sale of pure bred registered Galway Sheep at Athenry Mart.
"There was a complete clearance of the 85 female sheep on offer, while 25 rams were sold under the hammer," said chairman Gerry Daly. "A notable feature of this year's sale was the number of rams purchased to run with commercial flocks."
Martin Maher, who recently captured the All-Ireland award for the best pair of ewe lambs at Mountbellew Show, won the Joe Casey Memorial Cup for the overall champion female in the breeding ewe class.
Gerry Daly exhibited the best pen of ewe hoggets and Marie Kenny was a first time winner in the ewe lamb class.
Seán Kilkelly showed the champion hogget ram, which sold for €670, the highest price of the day. John Greaney had the champion ram lamb.
