For the next week, Ratheniska will become the best known parish in the country thanks to the National Ploughing Championships.

Close to 200,000 people from Ireland and beyond will visit the event, most to browse, some to buy and a few to sell. Getting the site ready is a mammoth task.

Alf Harvey's pictures capture some of the pre-ploughing action and effort.
