I hear myself saying things to my children that my father and mother said to my siblings and I especially during those teenage years of high dudgeon, recalcitrance and intransigence..

When our participation in the household chores wasn't up to the mark my mother would ask, "Where do you think you are, the Hilton?" I ask the same question of my children at least a few times a day.

Parents on the look out for a gorgeous country house, fully renovated with acreage and lovely finishing need look no further than Hilton House on 38ac located near Mullinahone, midway between Kilkenny City and Clonmel.

However, if they ever ask their children do they think they are in the Hilton, their offspring will be quite justified in responding 'yes'. In terms of accommodation, location and style this house certainly deserves its name.

With a price tag of €850,000 it can be bought for the cost of a semi-d in Dublin 4.

The private treaty sale is being handled by Sherry FitzGerald Country Homes and Sherry FitzGerald Haythornthwaite.

Originally built in 1850 the two-storey over basement house is constructed with limestone and set in the middle of its own 38ac with lovely views to the lovely Sliabh na mBan.

The house was restored in recent years under the supervision of the well-known conservation architect Paul Arnold.

The renovated house remains true to its provenance and the finished job combines all the grandeur of Georgian living with the best of modern conveniences.

The property is approached through a castellated entrance with a gate lodge in need of renovation. Extending to 4,047sqft the accommodation includes four reception rooms, a kitchen, study, six bedrooms and three bathrooms.
