Equine sales season gets under way

The first major sale of 2015 at Cavan Equestrian Centre takes place on March 3-4. Entries will comprise of horses and ponies, with the first day also including youngstock and Irish Draughts. Another sale of horses and ponies takes place on April 21 and 22.

Further sale dates include June 16-17 (horses and ponies), August 18-20 (horses, ponies and premier three-year-olds), September 24 (foals), September 30 (youngstock), October 1 (Irish Draughts and Connemaras), and October 7-8 (horses and ponies). See www.cavanequestrian.com for entry forms.

Meanwhile, Goresbridge will host a Sport Horse Performance Sale at the Co Kilkenny complex over three days from March 18-20.

The opening day is reserved for Connemara ponies and Irish Draughts, while the remaining two days will comprise of ponies, young horses and older proven performers. The closing date for all entries is tomorrow (February 11).

Further dates for Sport Horse Performance Sales include May 12-14, July 14-16, September 9-17, and October 20-22.

The September sale is the biggest in Ireland, with more than 1,500 three-year-olds alone going under the hammer.

Meanwhile, due to the large number of entries for the forthcoming Connemara Sale at Clifden, the sale has now been extended to take place over two days, February 21 and 22. Over 300 ponies have been entered.
