Dairygold has confirmed that it is to pay its malting barley suppliers €230/t for barley supplied at 20pc moisture.
An extra €5/t bonus is payable to malting barley suppliers who bought the majority of their seed and chemical inputs from Dairygold.
A spokesman for Dairygold said the co-op had secured enough quality malting barley from its suppliers to fulfil its contract with the Malting Company of Ireland.
The Dairygold base price of €230/t is €35/t higher than its 2011 price and is on a par with the price paid to Boortmalt suppliers this year.
Meanwhile, new figures from the IFA show that the total cereal harvest tonnage this year fell by 25pc from 2,4m tonnes in 2011 to just 1.8m tonnes in 2012.
