Michael Cronin, the former boss at Newmarket Co-op, has been appointed the interim chief executive of Wexford Co-op and replaces Eamon Murphy, who had held the position since 2005.
Mr Murphy, a trained accountant, has left the co-op to pursue other non-agri-business interests.
Wexford says that a recruitment process to find a permanent appointment for the role will be on-going over the coming months.
"We are delighted we were able to source a candidate with as much experience of the cheese business for this role," said a Wexford spokesman.
The chairman of Wexford Milk Producers (WMP), Michael Vaughan, thanked Mr Murphy for his work on behalf of the group's suppliers.
Michael Cronin led Newmarket Co-op until its purchase by Kerry Group last December.
