Coveney bids to boost racing

Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney has launched a stakeholders' consultation process as part of a review of the Irish horse racing industry.

The move is intended to provide the basis for a renewed impetus to the development of the horse racing industry. It will cover a number of crucial aspects -- legislation, governance structures and the size and structure of the industry. It will also deal with the nomination process for appointments to the board of Horse Racing Ireland, as well as the streamlining of functions and the funding model for the industry.

"My Department is seeking written submissions from interested parties. Submissions received will be provided to the successful tenderer," he said.

The closing date for written submissions is February 17.
