It was sold, after negotiation, to the highest bidder for a price in excess of €550,000. Ger Walsh of selling agents Walter Walsh, Thomastown, described the land as the best of grazing ground.

Located three miles from Mulinavat on the old Kilkenny/Waterford road, the property is in one block with extensive road frontage on to two roads.

Laid out in easily managed divisions, it is well fenced and has a natural water supply delivered by a stream that runs through the farm.

A big crowd turned up for the sale and, as no guide price had been published for the property, there was anticipation around the price that would open proceedings.

It opened at €300,000 and two local bidders entered the fray clearly meaning business.

In increments of €25,000 the price wasn't long climbing to €500,000.

The highest bidders, two brothers from the locality, entered negotiations with the auctioneer and subsequently bought.

Walsh said the vendors hoped to get between €7,000 and €10,000/ac.

"The final price was somewhere in the middle and that was good money."
