Cavan breeder cleans up at Hereford show

A well-known Cavan breeder made a clean sweep of the major awards at the final of the Irish Hereford Society Calf Show at Tullamore, writes Martin Ryan.
The awards won by Sean McKiernan from Corlismore included the Junior and Supreme Male Championships, won with 10-month-old, Corlismorepoll 1 Lad 794.
He also landed the Junior and Supreme Female Championships, with Corlismorepoll 1 Sydney 793, also January 2015 born.
Regular show exhibitor Trevor Dudley and family from Dovea, Thurles also had a very successful outing. He showed both the Reserve Male Supreme Championship and the Reserve Supreme Female slot, when the Reserve Junior Male Champion, Kilsunny Leyton, went on to secure the Reserve Supreme Male title.
The winner of the first class, Kilsunny Lass Lily, a December 2014 calf was awarded the Reserve Supreme Female Championship having earlier taken the Senior Female Championship position.
The judge Darragh McManus of Normanton Herefords, Leicestershire praised the quality of stock exhibited admitting that in some instances the competition was extremely close.
The Senior Female Reserve Champion, Ardmulchan Clover, was exhibited by Philip Smyth, Ardmulchan, Navan, Co Meath.
The Senior Male Champion, River Rock Buster, was shown by Tony Hartnett, Moyclare Nevis and the Reserve Senior Male Champion was exhibited by Michael Molloy, Glebe, Belmont, Co Offaly, who also exhibited first prize-winner Moyclare Odin.
An additional feature this year was the inclusion of a class for a commercial Hereford male or female the winner of which was exhibited by Ivan Jones, Creagh, Kenagh, Co Longford.
