Michael Carey, chairman of Jacob's Fruitfield, has been appointed as the new chairman of Bord Bia by Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney.
Mr Carey, who has held senior positions in a number of multinational food companies in Ireland, will take over the reins from outgoing chairman Dan Browne.
Welcoming Mr Carey to the board, Mr Coveney said he would bring considerable experience and knowledge to the agri-food sector at a time when the food industry was playing a pivotal role in the economic recovery of the country.
Five non-executive members were also appointed to the Bord Bia board.
These were Gary Brown, chief executive of Below the Line Marketing, Michael Cronin, former chairman of the Irish Dairy Board, Rhona Holland, marketing director of Global Intelligence, Pepsi Co beef and dairy farmer John Kingston and food entrepreneur Brody Sweeney.
Mr Coveney thanked outgoing chairman Dan Browne for his significant contribution to Bord Bia and the wider food industry during his term of office.
