Buoyancy in sector keeps trade strong

Scarcity of supplies and a continuing air of confidence in the sector is keeping the mart trade strong for all categories.
Ewes with lambs at foot are making €200-300. Those with singles are selling for less in some cases. Ewes in-lamb made €170-220. Culls fit for slaughter made €100-130, with store types selling for €50-100. Store lamb prices were at €70-100 in the main. Ewe lambs made up to €133, while finished lambs sold for €60-75 with the weight.
At Athenry yesterday, well-fleshed lambs made up to €78 over. The 40-50kg lambs sold for €55-73 over, while stores traded at €45-60 over.
The 1,500 on offer at Enniscorthy Mart met with a solid trade. Butcher lambs moved at up to €72 with the weight. Factory types sold for 65-71 over the €1/kg. Stores made €60-70 over in a price range of €80-107. Cull ewes for feeding sold for €57-82, while the heavier ewes made €110-128. Ewes in-lamb sold for €190-215, while ewes with lambs at foot hit €195-275.
Sheep prices and numbers were similar to the previous week at Dowra Mart, with ewe hoggets at €100-130. In-lamb hoggets made €130-155 each.
Store hoggets for feeding sold for €70-95. Heavy cull ewes made €80-115, while ewes for feeding sold for €50-78 each.
Numbers of sheep on offer at Mountbellew Mart were smaller than the previous week. Hoggets had a slightly easier trade to sell for €60-71 over, while ewe lambs made up to €133. Keen demand for in-lamb ewes and ewes with lambs at foot saw €170-232, while culls sold for €75-128.
Smaller numbers were on offer at Baltinglass, with prices easier by €1-3/hd. The 50-60kg lambs sold for €114-120, with the 45-50kg types at €104-113. Stores made up to €100. Ewes with single lambs at foot sold to €135. Cull ewes made €110-120.
