Bidding for Laragh House, an historic period residence on a 101ac farm near Ballintubber in Co Roscommon, is said to be brisk by local auctioneer, John Earley, who expects the property to sell at its guide price of €850,000.
About two-thirds of the farm is described as "good quality land" suitable for a variety of farm enterprises, while the remainder of the land is heavier ground. The farm also contains a 2ac turf bank with unimpeded turf cutting rights.
The spacious house, which has been owned by the same family for over a half a century, is furnished and laid out in a "1950s-style" and will require refurbishment, the auctioneer says.
"We have bids on the farm and house at €650,00 at the moment and will wait for other bids to come in over the next few weeks and then we will consider if we should put the property to auction," John Earley told the Farming Independent this week
