Close to €17,800/ac was paid last week for an 11ac field in Batterstown, Co Meath. There were four bidders in the frame for the property that is located off the M3 about 10 miles from Trim and 18 miles from Dublin.

Trim auctioneer Thomas Potterton opened the auction at €80,000 but there was little energy around the sale until offers passed €100,000 and then it swiftly moved to €160,000 when it went on the market.

The four bidders remained in contention until the land sold to a local builder for €196,000.

Thomas Potterton explained that the land has a constant water supply and comes with good road frontage and two stables.

Mr Potterton is also handling the sale of a 20ac field near Athboy, Co Meath.

The lands are at Balruntagh, Bohermeen about five miles from Athboy and six miles from Kells.

A guide of between €8,000/ac and €10,000/ac is being quoted for the land, which is all in grass.

The holding is situated on a quiet country road and come with just enough road frontage for possibly a single house.
