Barley growers to resume compensation talks

COMPENSATION talks between angry malting barley growers and Greencore are expected to resume tomorrow.
Close to 600 growers whose malting contracts were cancelled by the company are demanding adequate compensation for their loss.
Although growers have sought a payment of €150/t, there has been no indication from Greencore on the level of compensation it is considering.
Their representatives are due to meet with Patrick Coveney of Greencore tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, growers whose contracts were renewed will meet with David Wilkes, formerly of Greencore Malt, who now represents French owners Axereal.
The French co-op officially took control of the malting business on Friday when the €116m sale was completed.
