Ballinrobe prices up

The annual show and sale of Mayo Mule and Greyface sheep saw increased demand and prices last Friday in Ballinrobe.

There was a total of 2,000 ewe lambs and 900 hoggets on offer, with buyers bidding up to €200 for the ewe lambs and over €220 for the hoggets.

A second sale of the Mule and Greyface will be held in Ballinrobe Mart this Friday, with 1,000 ewe lambs and 800 hoggets.

Meanwhile, the annual show and sale of registered Galway sheep takes place in Athenry Mart next Monday, with the show at 11am and the sale at 1pm.

The female sheep will be sold first. There will be a premium of €30 for the buyer of the first prized animal in each category.

The Casey Cup will be presented on the day for the best pen of female sheep in commemoration of breeders Jack and Joe Casey of Murrough, Co Clare.
