A farm of 110ac of top class arable land situated on fine elevated ground in the midlands is coming to auction with a guide price of €10,000/ac.
The farm, which is the subject of an executor sale, is situated in the Offaly parish of Killeigh, around 14km from Tullamore, and close to the area where the well-known Glenisk dairy farm and factory are based. Portions of the land are located in nearby Geashill on the Laois/Offaly border. It is located in an area known for its top grazing and arable ground.
The holding is fragmented and is being offered for sale in lots that will make it attractive to local farmers.
Auctioneer Matt Dunne is hoping the farm as offered will attract significant local interest. "The place belonged to the late Colm Foy," he explained. "A man renowned for rearing big cattle. The ground is as good as any you'll find in Tipperary or Cork."
One of the larger parcels is located at Roskeen, Geashill and extends to 34.69ac of quality grazing ground. This is to be sold in one or two lots.
A second parcel at Roskeen, Geashill extends to 46.75ac with extensive road frontage and comes with a traditional farmyard that includes an old derelict house and two four-span hay barns with lean-tos.
A 5.13ac piece of elevated land at Lackamore, Geashill with frontage on to two roads and panoramic views of the Slieve Bloom will attract those in search of a decent site.
According to Mr Dunne this parcel would be ideal for the construction of two to three houses.
A 23ac parcel at Moneyquid/Finter, Killeigh can be sold in one or three lots and is described by the auctioneer as excellent arable land with mains water.
The auction takes place on Wednesday, September 23 at 3pm at the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore.
On the following day Mr Dunne is handling another executor sale of property also located at Killeigh. This farm extends to 44ac and includes a cottage on 0.75ac. It is to be sold in five small parcels and one larger parcel extending to 30ac.
The 30ac parcel located at Derrygunnigan, Killeigh is guided at €125,000 or just over €4,000/ac.
Mr Dunne said it does border bogland but is a "good piece of fattening ground".
