Rathmaiden in Co Meath is one of the more interesting and quirky properties to come on the market in recent times.

The property includes a one bedroom traditional style stone residence that has been fully renovated along with a stable yard, kennels and 61ac of land of which almost 43ac are in forestry.

The entire is for sale by public auction with a guide price of €475,000 and it comes with €8,300 per annum in forestry premiums and a BPS payment of €3,991 per annum

Located 4km from Slane, 14km from Drogheda and 16km from Navan, the property is 1.5km off the N2.

According to Chris Smith of selling agents Quillsen the place was completely renovated in the early 2000s with a new complex of dog kennels built in 2005. This served for a while as the county dog pound in Meath.

It will be sold at auction at the Conyngham Arms Hotel, Slane at 3pm on Tuesday, May 9.

The one-time dog pound for Co Meath comes with 43ac of forestry generating €8,300 per annum in premiums, writes Jim O'Brien
